Pittsburgh City Council member Bruce Kraus, sponsor of a failed performing animal ordinance in 2016, introduced a new city ordinance on Dec. 13 -- this version would ban the use of bullhooks and other management tools used "to train or control wild or exotic animals." The ordinance would, in effect, ban the performance or exhibition of wild or exotic animals in the city, and may come up for a vote as soon as Tuesday, Dec. 19.
Please take a moment to contact the Pittsburgh City Council members and Mayor to let them know you oppose any measure that would prohibit the proper care and management of exotic animals used in circuses or other animal exhibitions. You can also urge the Council to allow time for true animal experts to provide the facts on performing animal care and well-being before they decide to vote on this issue.
